As a kid, snacks are a staple in your diet. Whether it is some carrots, fruits, crackers, or pretzels, snack foods have always been a hit with the young crowd. Although, older generations still take advantage of “snack time.” And, why not? Snacks can give a great boost to anyone’s day. They can help with low blood sugars and small hunger cravings, plus provide some health benefits that may have been missed in an earlier meal.
Snack food trends have changed a lot since I was a kid. Major snack brands still reign supreme. However, a lot of parents are takeing snack time into their hands.
Healthy snacks have always been popular, but now, parents are taking healthy a step further by homemade snacks such as muffins, granola bars, even crackers and fruit strips. This way parents can provide their kids with a healthy snack without all that sugar, and with the benefit of knowing exactly what is in them.
Delicious Healthy Snacks
To see just how easy it is to make healthy snacks for kids at home, I decided to do some experimenting.
One recipe that I found that was easy, healthy, and delicious was apple “cookies.” It simply consists of apples, peanut butter, walnuts, and chocolate chips. The great thing about this recipe is you can change it to fit any picky eater’s palette. Don’t like apples? Use pears or even bananas. Can’t have peanut butter? Use almond butter or sunflower butter. The toppings are just as interchangeable. You can even get creative and use the apple slices as butterfly wings.
Making healthy and yummy snacks for you and your kids doesn’t have to be complicated and can be a fun activity for everyone, and they don't need to be full of sugar for your kids to eat them.
